"Kya tumne hai keh diya" - Saaz

Last weekend I saw an absolutely outstanding concert by Zakir Hussain - it was the fourth or fifth time I've seen him and let me tell you, if you ever have the chance to see him, just drop everything and go. Anyhow in light of that wonderful experience it seemed appropriate that the first post-hiatus Shabana-gaana should be "Kya tumne hai keh diya" from Sai Paranjpe's Saaz - featuring both Shabana Azmi and Zakir sahib. I've not seen this movie yet but I've got it in my collection, and as Sai Paranjpe is well on her way to becoming one of my favorite directors, I'm sure I'll watch it in the near future. Enjoy the song.

I love this song! It used to be on tv when I was a child.

Ooh, looks like you saw "Katha" and loved it. :)
Isn't she an amazing director?

Remember watching Saaz a long time ago - it was a very nice movie. As a big fan of Asha Bhosle I thought she finally got her due (the movie is the story of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle - mostly Asha) and Zakir Hussain was fab. I know what you mean about his concerts, too - saw him play tabla once and will never think of the tabla as an "accompanying instrument" anymore!

fanatic: One thing I love to do here is bring back memories for those of you who grew up with this stuff. It's all new to me, so I enjoy finding out what others are nostalgic about.

Amit: Actually that was really a prospective statement in favor of Sai Paranjpe - I haven't watched *Katha* yet but I anticipate that I will like it very much. It's on the strength of *Sparsh* and *Cheshme buddoor* only that she is "well on her way to becoming a favorite director." :)

bollyviewr: It took me a couple viewings of the song to get used to thinking of Zakir Hussain as a character in a movie rather than as Zakir Hussain; watching him and Shabana ji cuddling in the middle of the song was almost too much at first! He is awesome as a musician, and I am glad to hear that he is passable as an actor as well.

Here is a question for those of you who have seen *Saaz* - IMDB says it is only 29 minutes long. Is that actually correct? If so, why haven't I watched it yet???

I am not sure where imdb gets its info but the 'Saaz' I saw was a full length movie. Cant remember how long it was but it certainly wasnt 29 minutes!
